Richard Carey is a product development executive, project manager/producer, and human engagement engineer who builds immersive online experiences from concept to launch. Richard’s recent projects include the strategy, design and development of social media and games, e-learning, e-business and web video solutions.
He’s worked for publishers like Pearson Education, Scholastic, and Houghton Mifflin, media companies including ABC, CBS, HBO, RCA, Showtime, Time-Warner, Universal, and for many private businesses, start-ups, arts and cultural organizations.
Richard was Director of Technology Product Development for Pearson Education’s PLG division. In that role he recruited and managed a team that developed web based math, reading and fluency intervention programs, a major upgrade of the company’s flagship reading assessment system using Anoto digital pen/paper technology, and a single-sign-on system for all Pearson Learning Group’s online products. After leaving Pearson he organized RC/A Digital Media Solutions and now offers strategic consulting, product design and digital mediadevelopment services across the complete product life cycle.
Prior to Pearson Education, Richard held leadership roles in product development at Scholastic, RCA Records and Houghton Mifflin. As an entrepreneur, he has been a principal at several media production and marketing companies, including Television Theater Company, iFast Corporation and Interactive Magic Associates. Before working in digital media, Richard produced and directed award-winning film and video entertainment, music videos, documentaries, training and marketing communications. Richard is also a public speaker, writer and blogger on serious games, social media and emerging web technologies. He has moderated and appeared on panels at ProMax, the world’s premier body for promotion and marketing professionals working in electronic and broadcast media, at the Software and Information Industry Association, the Game Developers Conference and the Seybold Conference. He has also covered recent Games, Learning & Society, Dust or Magic and SIIA conference as blogger, video blogger and reporter.
Richard received his BA in Film and Education from Goddard College. He continues to expand his knowledge of management, media, technology, and education by participating in numerous professional trainings, seminars, workshops and conferences.
Richard lives in Brooklyn, New York and when not working in the virtual world is an avid downhill skier, mountain biker, amateur naturalist and photographer.
